Where to go

Tauranga Family Planning Clinic

Tauranga Family Planning Clinic provides medical abortion up to 9 weeks of pregnancy.

Surgical abortion up to 13 weeks of pregnancy is provided by Waikato, Tokoroa and Thames Hospitals (see Waikato pages for more information).

The First Step

To be referred you can see a GP,  Family Planning doctor or the Bay of Plenty Sexual Health Clinic.

They will talk to you and organise some essential blood and swab tests, offer you a counselling appointment. If you are interested in medical abortion they will refer you to the Family Planning clinic, if you are later in pregnancy or prefer surgical abortion you will be referred to one of the Waikato services.

Counselling is available to every patient, and is routine unless the patient declines. Post-abortion counselling can be provided on request.

Medical Termination at Tauranga Family Planning

You will be required to take the medicines at the clinic, but will return home for the miscarriage to occur.

The clinic offers this service one day a week.

Surgical Termination with Waikato services

The procedure is done by vacuum aspiration under local anaesthetic (awake) up to 13 weeks of pregnancy. See Waikato pages for more information.
