Pregnancy Tests
Pregnancy tests or pregnancy diagnostic kits are readily available from pharmacies. It is important to READ the INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
Kits come in single and 2-test packets, but there is not much difference in price. It is worth buying the 2-test kits and, if the result is negative, wait a few days and test again.
All kits are reliable and are similar to the tests used by doctors in their surgeries. The tests become positive at slightly different times, some from 7-10 days after conception and some not until the period is overdue.
Prices vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. The prices quoted below were provided by pharmacists in Wellington. Most pharmacies have 2-3 brands available. This list is not comprehensive. Contact the webmaster with information about any other kits that are available.
The first three tests in the table are simpler to use (a stick is dipped in the stream of urine). They are generally more expensive than the other three that require the urine to be collected in a cup.
